Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Rosh Hashanah

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Rosh Hashanah:

“Over the holiday, in synagogues around the world, shofars will sound, marking the beginning of the new year. As the sun sets, families will gather in their homes around tables laden with apples and honey, challah, and other delicious food to celebrate the blessings of the past year and look ahead to new beginnings.

“The celebration of Rosh Hashanah also marks the beginning of the High Holidays season – the Ten Days of Awe – where Jews reflect on God’s justice and mercy while contemplating new ways to live in faithful obedience to His Word.

“Rosh Hashanah is an occasion of repentance and forgiveness. It is a time of hope and encouragement that has inspired the Jewish people for millennia, comforting them even during times of unimaginable hardship.

“This year, as Jews around the world celebrate, I encourage all Canadians to reflect on the many ways that our country has been blessed by Jewish Canadians, who continue to add the richness of their heritage to the strength of our nation.

“Shanah Tovah U’metuka!  “Have a sweet new year”
