Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Newroz

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Newroz:

“There is always power in the act of coming together to celebrate the coming of a new year. Today, as they carry on the legacy of their ancestors, Kurdish communities around the world will gather on hillsides to light fires and celebrate Newroz.

“For many, Newroz is a time of personal renewal. As the spring equinox passes and the days get longer, we look forward with hope to brighter days ahead. We honour the ways that our friends and families have helped us persevere through the darkness of winter and rejoice in the new life of spring.

“This hope is seen in the brightness of bonfires, the lighting of fireworks and the timeless Kurdish traditions of the season. It is seen in the reconciliation of friends and family and in the ancient songs and dances that have been passed down for generations.

“On behalf of Canada’s Common-Sense Conservatives, please accept my best wishes as you celebrate Newroz. May your homes be filled with peace, joy and the confidence of a happy year ahead.  “Newroz pîroz bêt!”
