Trudeau’s Immigration And Public Safety Minister Must Answer How ISIS Member Was Granted Citizenship

Ottawa, ON – After nine years of Justin Trudeau, Canada has become unsafe. The deteriorating state of our national security was made abundantly clear after the RCMP foiled an attempted ISIS attack in the Greater Toronto Area just a few weeks ago.

This situation became even more horrifying when Canadians discovered that one of the two accused men, Ahmed Fouad Mostafa Eldidi, had been allowed to enter Canada and become a Canadian citizen. He was granted citizenship after he had been videoed dismembering a prisoner on behalf of ISIS in 2015. The fact that this was ever allowed to happen is a shocking national security failure that needs to be addressed immediately.

After more than a week of Conservative pressure, Liberal, NDP and Bloc members of Parliament agreed to launch a full investigation into this issue. Canadians deserve to feel safe in their own communities and all political parties must come together to ensure a similar failure can never happen again.

During this investigation, Conservatives will ensure that its findings are transparent and accountable. It is vital for Canadians to know the timelines and circumstances of Eldidi’s immigration to Canada and how the Trudeau Government allowed him to become a citizen, even though the Liberals have consistently claimed that Canada had robust vetting and screening practices. It is critical for Trudeau’s Public Safety Minister and Immigration Minister to appear before Committee as soon as possible and provide full and open testimony on this colossal national security failure.

The Liberals must be honest with Canadians about the date that Eldidi first entered Canada. They must also reveal the immigration program through which Eldidi entered, the date he became a permanent resident, as well as the date he became a Canadian citizen. Canadians also have a right to know whether there are any other ISIS members living in their communities as a result of similar security failures. This information is vital to ensuring that another situation like this does not happen again.

Common Sense Conservatives will get to the bottom of this shocking national security failure and ensure Canadians get the answers they deserve. Conservatives will continue to do everything in our power to keep Canadians safe and stop terrorists from entering our country.
